Paperback or soft-cover books can be placed with your curbside recyclables for collection.

Hardcover Books are not recyclable and should be placed in the garbage.

Institutions, school districts and large hardcover book generators should contact Emily Albright at the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority Main Office at 733-1224 to schedule a delivery date and time.

There are several locations that accept hardcover and paperback books for reuse and resale such as local book exchanges, libraries, nursing homes, The Rescue Mission of Utica, Salvation Army Thrift Stores and the Kirkland Art Center. However, many of these locations will not accept text books, encyclopedias, dictionaries and Readers Digest Condensed Books. OHSWA encourages residents to utilize these locations for reuse and recycling of hardcover books whenever possible.
