New York Adopts PaintCare Recycling Program

On May 1, 2022 the New York State Post-consumer Paint Collection Program law went into effect. This law states that an architectural paint producer or retailer cannot sell paint to consumers unless the product is registered with PaintCare. PaintCare is a non-profit organization that has worked to increase recycling opportunities and proper disposal of paint in several states across the country. PaintCare will contract with retailers and other types of drop off locations to assist with the collection and recycling of paint. Below is a list of drop-off sites in Oneida and Herkimer Counties that will accept paint for recycling year round

Sherwin Williams (Utica) - up to 5 gallons per visit

Urbaniks Paints (Utica) - up to 5 gallons per visit

Sherwin Williams (New Hartford) - up to 5 gallons per visit

Jay-K Independent Lumber (New Hartford) - up to 5 gallons per visit

Sherwin Williams (Rome) - up to 5 gallons per visit

Ilion True Value Hardware (Ilion) - up to 10 gallons per visit

Zipp Hardware (Dolgeville) - up to 5 gallons per visit

Not all types of paint will be accepted at these PaintCare recycling locations. Click here for a list of accepted and unaccepted paint materials. 

 

The Utica EcoDrop's Household Hazardous Waste Facility (Closed until April 2023) also accepts paint for recycling, in addition to other items like chemicals, fertilizers, glues, sealants and oils. This facility is open April - September every year. Please click here for a list of accepted items.
