In New York State, residents are currently exempt from having to specially dispose of disposable e cigarettes and other vape devices. Please place these items in your garbage. Schools, businesses and other similar groups are not exempt and are required to dispose of large quantities of these items (in addition to rechargeable batteries and empty cartridges) through a special disposal program. Please contact the Authority at 315-733-1224 or ohswa@ohswa.org if assistance is needed in finding a disposal outlet for these items.
Residents can bring rechargeable batteries to the Authority’s Utica or Rome EcoDrop for disposal. Empty cartridges are considered pharmaceutical waste and can be brought to local police stations or pharmacies for proper disposal.
