The Authority offers a Food2Energy program that allows for the recovery of food waste (scraps) in order to divert them from the Regional Landfill and produce electricity through anaerobic digestion.
The Authority offers a Food2Energy program that allows for the recovery of food waste (scraps) in order to divert them from the Regional Landfill and produce electricity through anaerobic digestion. Residents CANNOT place food waste at the curb for collection, but they can be DELIVERED to the Authority's EcoDrop Utica located at 80 Leland Avenue, Ext. in Utica, NY.
Accepted Food2Energy Items: produce, meat (including bones!), fish, dairy products, cereals, grains, expired foods and packaged foods. With Food2Energy, there is no requirement to remove food waste from the packaging.
Food Waste MUST be placed in a clear plastic bag and delivered to the Utica EcoDrop. A fee of $2/bag applies.
If you are unable to separate and deliver Food Waste to our Utica EcoDrop for recycling, please place food waste in your regular garbage for disposal. Do not place food waste in your recycling bin.
