City of Little Falls

The City of Little Falls, Department of Public Works, is responsible for the collection of residential solid waste and recyclables in the City. Our main goal is to ensure that residents are receiving the most efficient and solid waste collection and recycling service.

Rules For Setting Out Garbage, Bulk Items And Recyclables (effective March 23, 2026)

  • Residents should place their garbage/trash in sturdy, preferably semi-translucent bags that allow contents to be visible for inspection.
  • No loose garbage is allowed.
  • All bags must be placed in a trash receptacle.
  • Three (3) trash receptacles up to 32 gallons each are allowed for each household unit.

Residents should place recyclables in the City of Little Falls blue bin, or in a reusable container of your choice. Cardboard boxes should be flattened before placing them in the recycling container.

Schedule For Setting Out Garbage/Trash, Bulk Items And Recyclables

Garbage, bulk items and recyclables will be collected on your regularly scheduled collection day beginning at 7:00am and will continue until collection is complete. If your regular pick-up/collection day is on:

  • Wednesday: Set out garbage/trash and recyclables on Tuesday night OR before 7:00 am on Wednesday
  • Thursday: Set out garbage/trash and recyclables on Wednesday night OR before 7:00 am on Thursday
  • Friday: Set out garbage/trash and recyclables on Thursday night OR before 7:00 am on Friday

In addition to garbage/trash and recyclables, ONE bulk item may be set out each week on the same day as your scheduled collection.

Bulk Items: Defined as a single large household item, i.e. couch, chair, mattress, table, etc. Bulk items must not be too large or too heavy to be safely lifted by two employees.

The City will not be responsible for private contractor generated trash or construction debris. Residents must use a private hauler for removal of trash and construction debris.

Electronics: The City of Little Falls will hold an annual ELECTRONICS products collection week, in November. Exact dates will be posted on the City of Little Falls website. Residents may dispose of metal/electronics products that are not included in the City trash pick-up. THE PROGRAM WILL NOT INCLUDE HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE PRODUCTS, i.e., paint, motor oil, chemicals, pesticides, fluorescent light bulbs. The pick-up will include electronics products, i.e., computers, monitors, TVs CDs, DVDs, VCRs and other electronic scrap products. Place electronic products in separate piles. These items will be recycled.

Steel, Metal Items, and Major Appliances: A dumpster is located at the DPW garage, 367 Loomis St. Ext., and is available to residents year-round to dispose of steel, metal, white goods and major appliances Monday-Friday, 6:30am-2:30pm.

Special Recyclable Items: Special items recycled by the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority such as appliances, computers and other electronics must be delivered directly to the Authority's facility at 824 Sewage Plant Road, Utica. These items CANNOT be placed for curbside collection.

Household Hazardous Waste: Paint, motor oil, chemicals, pesticides, cleaners, etc. can be delivered to the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority's Household Hazardous Waste Facility, 824 Sewage Plant Road, Utica, at no charge April-September. Household hazardous waste CANNOT be placed at curbside for collection.

Tires (will not be collected at curbside): Residents can deliver tires for a small fee, to the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority, 824 Sewage Plant Road, Utica, or contact a private hauler to have them removed.

Yard Waste (grass, leaves & twigs) Collection: 2nd Tuesday of the month from April-October

  • Yard waste must be placed between the sidewalk and the road in front of the house, NOT in the road.
  • Branches/twigs must be bundled and no more than 5' in length.
  • Do not include plastic pots and containers - organic waste only. They will not be picked up.
  • NO MORE THAN 3ft x 3ft x 3ft of material will be picked up at each residence.
  • Residents may also bring yard waste to the City garage at 367 Loomis St. Ext. Mon.-Fri., 6:30am-2:30pm.
