Am I Recyclable? Do You Wish-Cycle? BBQ

"Do You Wish-Cycle" at Summer BBQs & Parties?

This summer avoid tossing items into the recycling bin that we "wish" could be recycled curbside. Some materials and items that we think could be recycled are actually not accepted in curbside recycling bins.

Commonly “wish-cycled” BBQ items that are NOT recyclable and should be placed in the garbage include:

  • Paper & Plastic Plates

  • Paper Napkins

  • Styrofoam Coolers & Containers

  • Soda & Beer Cartons (wet-strength boxes)

  • Plastic Bags

  • Plastic Straws

  • Plastic Utensils

Common BBQ items that can be recycled and should be placed in your recycling bin include:

  • Aluminum Foil (clean)

  • Aluminum Food trays (clean)

  • Solo Cups

  • Milk & Water Jugs

  • Mustard & Ketchup Bottles

  • Soda & Juice Bottles (with caps on)

  • Soda & Beer Cans

  • Juice Boxes (without straws)

  • Salad Dressing Bottles

When we “wish-cycle”, we potentially contaminate clean recyclables and waste both energy and resources.

Recycling the basics (clean cardboard and paper, plastic bottles, containers & jugs, aluminum cans) AND knowing your local recycling program will help keep our recyclable resources in use and out of landfills.
