The Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority (Authority) is happy to recognize Munson (formerly Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute) as a Certified RecycleOne Business.
Munson earned a RecycleOne Business Certification from the Authority in 2016, following a waste audit and the implementation of recommendations from the waste audit. The 2016 initiatives included but were not limited to the development of a recycling program to be used for events and activities, forming a Green Team and Environmental Club and upgrading to Energy Star qualified appliances.
In February 2023, the Authority worked with Munson to reassess their recycling program and again offer recommendations for potential improvements. Recommendations were made for both the museum and School of Art, including:
- waste and recycling bin placements
- reuse and recycling of scrap art supplies
- providing sufficient waste and recycling information in residence halls
- delivery of cafeteria food scraps to the Authority’s Food2Energy Facility
- streamlining waste and recycling collection by maintenance staff
“The Authority is impressed with the initiative that Munson has taken with viewing their rebranding as an opportunity to reassess their waste stream and recycling efforts,” said Authority Recycling Coordinator Eileen Brinck. “We are proud to include Munson as a part of our RecycleOne Business Program,” she continued.
"Becoming more climate-friendly and energy efficient is important for Munson to continue to serve the region for generations," said Munson President and CEO Anna Tobin D'Ambrosio. "We appreciate the expertise the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority has offered us over the years and are proud to be a RecycleOne Business."
