Indium Corporation is RecycleOne Certified!

The Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority is pleased to announce that Indium Corporation has obtained a RecycleOne Business Certification.

The RecycleOne Business Certification requires an on-site review by Authority staff to verify that participating businesses meet specific solid waste management criteria. The Authority works directly with businesses to help them meet these criteria through services such as waste audits, recycling guidance, and employee education. Businesses that successfully complete the review receive official RecycleOne Business Certification. The program is free and available to all businesses located in Oneida and Herkimer Counties. Certified businesses receive a framed certificate for display, recognition on the Authority’s website, and eligibility for the Authority’s annual Recycling Champion Award.

Meet the Business: Indium Corporation

Indium Corporation is a global materials manufacturer and supplier specializing in advanced solder and alloy solutions for the electronics, semiconductor, automotive, and industrial markets. Founded in 1934 and headquartered in Clinton, New York, the company supports customers worldwide with products and technical expertise used in critical applications, including energy and aerospace and other emerging technologies. Indium Corporation is known for its commitment to innovation, quality, and responsible manufacturing practices.

Indium Corporation has five facilities in Central New York located in Utica, Clinton, New Hartford and Rome. These facilities include manufacturing and administration and employ over 1,000 people locally. The company also has locations across the world.

Indium Corporation’s Waste Reduction Efforts

Indium Corporation and the Authority worked together throughout 2025 and the winter of 2026 to assess current waste reduction efforts and make improvements wherever necessary. Due to many of its customers looking for data on its sustainability efforts, Indium Corporation already had many waste reduction and sustainability practices in place, making it a great candidate for the RecycleOne Business Certification Program.

Employee Green Team: A cross-functional team drives environmental initiatives across all facilities. This team is made up of Environmental Professionals, Maintenance and Janitorial Staff, Material Handlers and EHS (Environment, Health and Safety) Department Members.

Waste Review & Reduction: Regular audits help identify opportunities to reduce waste and improve efficiency. Indium Corporation hired a third-party consultant to provide an initial waste audit in January 2025, on which the rest of the RecycleOne Business Certification process was based. One of the main recommendations from the audit was to provide more employee education in regards to best practices in waste reduction and proper disposal. Authority Recycling Coordinator Eileen Brinck visited each of Indium Corporation’s facilities to provide educational materials and answer any questions about recycling and the certification program. The main message that was shared was that if you recycle at home, you can recycle at work, since it all goes to the same place – The Authority’s Oneida-Herkimer Recycling Center in Utica.

Recycling Programs: Indium Corporation has programs in place for the recycling of paper, cardboard, beverage containers, electronics, printer/toner cartridges, and light bulbs. Some of this material comes to the Authority while other materials are recycled through third-party vendors. One recommendation from the January 2025 waste audit was to look into a recycling program for uncontaminated nitrile gloves, as they are a major component of the company’s waste stream.

Use of Recycled Materials: Products, shipping materials, and process by-products incorporate recycled content whenever possible.

Environmentally Friendly Operations: Green cleaning products, Energy Star equipment, and ongoing energy-saving projects support sustainable operations. Indium Corporation’s Headquarters building in New Hartford is Energy Star Certified and other energy savings projects have been developed and are being implemented.

Continuous Improvement: Indium Corporation intends to continue implementing additional waste, recycling, and organics diversion programs to further reduce landfill impact.

"At Indium Corporation, sustainability isn’t just a practice – it’s a responsibility,” said Bob Koslosky, Sustainability & Environmental Manager at Indium Corporation. “We are proud to work alongside the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority to reduce our environmental impact and promote recycling across all of our facilities. Achieving RecycleOne Business Certification reflects our ongoing commitment to our employees, our community, and the future of our planet."

“The Authority has been working with Indium Corporation for many years providing guidance on how to responsibly dispose of waste materials,” said Authority Recycling Coordinator Eileen Brinck. “That plus working on their own sustainability and extended producer responsibility efforts makes them a very welcome addition to the RecycleOne Business Certification program.”
