Free Drop-Off Recycling Event

The Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority and Senator Joe Griffo will be holding a Free Drop-Off Recycling Event on Saturday April 18th from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Authority’s Utica location at 824 Sewage Plant Road. The event will include:

  • Drive-Through Electronics Recycling: Electronics are accepted for recycling year-round at the Authority’s EcoDrop facilities. For the duration of this event, there will be a convenient drive-through recycling option for electronics. Stay right in your car and Authority staff will be available to assist with unloading.
  • Confidential Paper Shredding by ConfiData: Residents can bring a limit of three boxes per vehicle of confidential documents for shredding. Documents will be shredded onsite and be placed in a collection vehicle for recycling. Names or personal information do not need to removed from the documents. No commercial shredding will be accepted.
  • Medication and Pharmaceutical Collection by DEC: The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will be accepting prescription and over the counter medications for proper disposal. This includes medications in the form of liquids, pills or powders, vitamins and pet medications. Medications and prescriptions do not need to be in their original packaging. Sharps will not be accepted.
  • Cell Phones for Soldiers: Unused/unwanted cell phones will be collected for donation to Cell Phones for Soldiers to help military members and veterans connect with their families and loved ones.
  • Household Hazardous Waste: The Authority’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility is now open for the 2026 season. Items such as paints, chemicals, pesticides and cleaners are accepted at this facility from April 1st to September 30th.
  • Year-Round EcoDrop Items: The Utica EcoDrop will be available during the event for the disposal of items that are accepted year-round. This includes items such as appliances, propane tanks, bulky rigid plastic and rechargeable batteries.
