Residential Convenience Stations
In an effort to provide as many user-friendly, environmentally-sound disposal options for residents of Oneida and Herkimer Counties, the Authority developed residential convenience stations. These convenience stations work in concert with a wide range of public and private solid waste collection systems by providing convenient disposal options for special or one-time waste, while also providing an option for residents who may not be able to subscribe to a specific collection system.
Acceptable Waste
The following waste items may be disposed of at the Authority's Residential Convenience Stations located in Rome and Utica.
- Recyclables
- Household Garbage
- Trash/Bulk Items (i.e. furniture, mattresses)
- Appliances
- Construction & Demolition Debris
- Tires
- Yard Waste/Green Waste
- Salvation Army Drop-Off Box (Clothing only)
- Automobile Batteries
- Alkaline Batteries - Utica only (A, AA, AAA, C, D)
- Used Motor Oil -Oil Filters
- Anti-Freeze
- Propane Cylinders (under 100 lbs.)
- Computer Equipment (Utica Facility Only)
- Hardcover Books (Utica only)
- Kitchen Grease and Oil (Utica only)
- Residential Medical Sharps (Needles & Syringes) (Utica only)
Household hazardous waste (i.e. paints, chemicals) are accepted at the Utica convenience station only, April through September. For more information about Household Hazardous Waste, click here.
