Information On Recycling Hard Cover Books The Authority has received many requests from residents, schools and institutions to develop a hard cover book recycling program. Currently, there are several locations that accept hard cover and paperback books for reuse and resale such as: local book exchanges, libraries, nursing homes, The Rescue Mission of Utica, Salvation Army Thrift Stores and the Kirkland Arts Center. However, many of these locations will not accept text books, encyclopedias, dictionaries and Readers Digest Condensed Books. As a first step, the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority encourages residents to utilize these locations for reuse and recycling of hard cover books whenever possible. Authority's Recycling Procedure Collection and Delivery Information: Hard cover books cannot be set out at curbside, but can be delivered to the Authority's Residential Convenience Station on Leland Ave in Utica 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and on Saturday from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Institutions, school districts and large hard cover book generators should contact David Lupinski at the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority offices (733-1224) to schedule a delivery date and time. At the recycling mill, the books' hard cover and binding will be removed and the high quality paper will be recycled into new paper products. Hard cover books will not be collected at the curbside. Catalogs, magazines, telephone books and paper back books can continue to be placed at curbside with the paper recyclables for collection by recycling haulers. See map below for location of the Residential Convenience Station in Utica.
