RECYCLING PROGRAM IMPROVEMENT MEETINGS
02/26/07
The Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority is looking for ideas on how to   improve and expand recycling in Oneida and Herkimer Counties. Six public meetings have been scheduled around the region.
Region wide recycling started in Oneida-Herkimer Counties about 20 years ago and became a full scale operation with the opening of the Recycling Center in 1991. Since then we have added new recyclables and recycling programs on a regular basis. Although the Oneida-Herkimer recycling program is comprehensive, we are always looking for ways to improve.
The following are some of the questions or issues that will be addressed at the meetings:
What are specific impediments to recycling?
Are there households that are recycling some but not all the
materials they could? How could that situation be improved?
Are there specific items/materials that should be added to           those currently recycled?
What should be the primary means of disseminating recycling           information and instruction? Does the poster work? Will people           use the web site?
Is there a particular segment of the community (ie. retail           businesses, schools, industries, residential apartments) that is           lagging in recycling?
The recycling meetings will be held at the dates, times and locations listed below. We plan a short overview of recycling in Oneida-Herkimer Counties followed by an open discussion of suggestions and ideas.
