LOCAL COMPANY SELECTED FOR WASTE TRANSPORT
02/14/06

Following a competitive bidding process, the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority awarded a 5 year contract to Fred Burrows Trucking of Whitesboro for the transport of waste from the Authority transfer stations in Utica and Rome to the new Oneida-Herkimer landfill facility in Ava. Total payments to Burrows over the 5 years will be $10,888,601.

The landfill will be complete and open at the end of 2006. Existing transfer stations in Utica and Rome will remain operational to receive waste from individual collection trucks. At the transfer stations, waste will be loaded in Burrows high capacity walking floor transfer trailers for transport to the landfill.

We are pleased to be the successful bidder for this work. We are always looking at opportunities to expand our business and this is a natural fit for us. Well be using 42 new transfer trailers and 12 new trucks to do the job. We look forward to providing safe, efficient service for the community, said Fred Burrows Jr.

Authority Executive Director Hans Arnold said, The most critical part of this is to insure that we provide the safest possible service. Fred Burrows Trucking will be using all new equipment and their track record is excellent. There will be ample equipment so that peak traffic times can be avoided and there will be no shortfalls during high waste generation periods. This contract will be one of the most visible parts of providing solid waste management service to the community. We recognize that and look forward to working with Fred Burrows Trucking.

Currently waste is transported to a private landfill in Rochester.
