A.
Total Landfill Site Development Area (top)
- Total area of
the landfill is 1039 acres including footprint, support facilities,
and buffer areas.
B.
Landfill Footprint (top)
- Total area of 150
acres that will be used for the disposal of waste.
- Underlain by deep
tight soils.
- Dual composite
liner system constructed beneath all areas of the footprint that will
provide collection of leachate,(water that has come in contact with
waste), and protection of groundwater resources.
- All areas of footprint
will be capped with protection layer after reaching final elevations.
- Landfill gas collection
system installed throughout footprint.
C.
Landfill Cells (1, 2, 3,…) (top)
- Area within landfill
footprint where waste is disposed.
- Initial construction
included cells 1, 2 and 3.
- Future construction
of cells 4-19 will be phased throughout the life of the landfill.
D.
Limits of Construction (top)
- Area within the
limits of landfill construction, encompassing 252 acres of the total
1039 acre site.
E.
Stormwater Detention Basins (top)
- Collect stormwater,
not leachate, from footprint area of landfill for controlled discharge
to streams to prevent flooding.
F.
Sediment Control Basins (top)
- Series of ponds
that will collect sediment, i.e. silt/sand, from stormwater to prevent
silting of streams.
G.
Scale House and Convenience Area (top)
- Scale house to
control access to site and weigh incoming waste.
H.
Leachate Storage Tanks (top)
- Two, 1.3 million
gallon dual containment tanks to store the leachate collected by the
liner systems. Leachate is pumped into tankers for transportation and
disposal at a waste water treatment facility.
I.
Maintenance/Scale/Office Facility (top)
- Buildings for the
maintenance/storage of landfill equipment, facilities for landfill personnel,
and landfill office.
- Scale to weigh
incoming waste.
J.
Mitigation Wetlands (top)
- Series of new wetlands
totaling 32.6 acres created on the landfill site and buffer areas to
replace wetlands that can't be avoided by construction.
- For additional
details on wetlands, click
here.
K.
Buffer Areas (top)
- 889
acres of land within the landfill site that will be used for visual
screening, snowmobile trails and wetland mitigation.
