VETERANS' MEMORIAL AND COUNTY REFORESTATION

The proposed landfill site does not include any of the Oneida County Reforestation property or the Veterans' Memorial.

The Veterans' Memorial monument area, which is on the south side of Route 294 on Oneida County Reforestation property, is located nearly 1,700 feet west of the closest boundary of the proposed landfill site, and is approximately 3,400 feet northwest of the closest boundary of the landfill's proposed footprint. Also, the distance between the landfill's proposed footprint and the County Reforestation property at its closest point is approximately 1,350 feet. No impacts to the existing uses of the Oneida County Reforestation area or the Veterans' Memorial will be created by the landfill project. The existing treeline will serve as a visual buffer between the proposed landfill site and the Reforestation area and the Veterans' monument.

Authority Board Members have met with the Veterans' groups on several occasions and offered to either enhance the existing Memorial, or to purchase different property and construct a family-oriented Veterans' park. Although they have declined that offer, we remain willing to discuss this and any issues they may have at anytime.
