EXISTING COMMUNITY COMPENSATION To date, the Authority has purchased 1,039 acres. As provided under New York State Law, and as done for other jurisdictions when the Authority owns property, the Authority has made payments in lieu of taxes (PILOTS) to the Town of Ava and Oneida County for the real property taxes. The payment by the Authority exceeds the payments by the prior private owners by approximately 84%. Therefore, the Town and the County have seen no loss of tax revenue due to the proposed landfill. The Authority has offered to discuss a payment to the Adirondack Central School as part of a community compensation agreement that would also insure no loss of revenue to the school district. FUTURE COMMUNITY COMPENSATION The Authority has offered to meet with representatives of the Towns of Ava. Boonville, and Lewis and the Village of Boonville to discuss additional community benefit packages, which to date have been declined by all of the local communities.
