Since the Oneida-Herkimer Recycling Center opening in 1991, to date we have recycled the following quantities of recyclable materials:

1. Newspaper - 249,942 tons - 500 million pounds. The pile of newspaper would be 3,787 miles high (4 foot pile weighs 100 lbs.) That would stretch from Utica to San Francisco, California and back to Denver, Colorado. 1 ton of newspaper saves 20 trees; we have saved 4,719.960 trees.

2. Corrugated Cardboard - 124,935 tons. That would fill 59,493 ten-wheel dump trucks with 832,903 cubic yards. Bumper to bumper they would stretch nearly 338 miles.

3. Glass Containers - 36,050 tons. That would be the equivalent to the weight of 112 Statues of Liberty (322 tons).

4. Plastic Containers - 20,574 tons (10 barrels oil/ton). Saved 205,740 barrels of oil or 10,287,000 gallons of oil.

5. Metal Cans - 31,857 tons (1.5 tons/car). That would produce approximately 21,239 economy size cars.

6. Mixed Office Paper - 10,573 tons (1.0 lb. per employee). That is 1 days worth of paper for 21,144,620 employees.
